Kyle Soriano Reflection

My presentation was about Chapter 10: Using Language Effectively. This chapter outlines everything about communicating with your audience effectively and using the right words or phrases that will lead the audience to gain the maximum understanding of the message you are trying to convey. This topic covered expressions such as slang, jargon, idioms, and more. I thought this was a great topic to discuss because most times a speaker may be trying to give a message that the audience doesn't particularly understand. This chapter helped me understand that using the right terms and phrases at the right time can really determine if your speech is successful or a failure. For example, I believe if you are talking to an older audience, you should avoid slang because they may not understand. My presentation lacked some detail, but I did a wonderful job along with all my classmates.

All the projects were great. They were highly informative and gave great advice to use to improve our public speaking skills. I thought these projects were a brilliant idea because they allowed us to learn new methods on how to improve public speaking. It allowed us as students to do research on diverse topics which was amazing. Overall, I really enjoyed the projects and learned a lot of new skills that I can use while public speaking. I thought the other groups did an excellent job on their project. I really admired how they handled it. They seemed to be greatly confident and not nervous at all. I also really liked how they used a lot of images and visuals. Visuals are a fantastic way to display something and may help understand the topic.

Another reason I enjoyed the project was because of the teamwork involved. The teamwork allowed me to be far more efficient because the workload was split between us. The collaboration was extremely helpful and allowed us to share ideas and opinions on the topics. Our group quickly split up the work and began our project, which I also liked. I thought putting us into groups was a great idea because it allowed us to connect with each other and help each other if someone was struggling. I hope we do more group work in the future because the collaboration experience while doing the project was one of a kind. The interactions I had with my group were astounding because it made the process a lot smoother. The project would have been a lot more difficult if I did not have my classmates to help me on the project. I think we did an excellent job and look forward to working with them in the future. Our group presented very well, and all described in detail the main points of the chapters assigned to us. We deliberately displayed a course of information that is extremely significant to public speaking.

Although I have many wonderful things to say about the presentation. I had some struggles. One of my biggest struggles was speaking confidently without getting nervous. I assumed since we were presenting at Zoom, I was not going to get nervous, but I was in for a shocking surprise. When it was my turn to present, I found myself getting nervous as I began to present. I think that is something I need to work on because that is a huge factor in public speaking. If you cannot speak confidently while giving a speech your audience may question your credibility. They may even ignore you and not listen to what the speaker is saying if you do not communicate assertively. The lack of audience engagement is also something that I struggled with. I think I should have asked more questions to keep the audience more engaged and entertained. The engagement also allows the audience to comprehend the message easier. Since they interact with you, the audience can be more attentive and follow what you are saying, leading them to understand better.

To conclude, this project was very helpful and led me to understand public speaking better and learn more about public speaking tips. I also found my classmates' presentations helpful and extremely informative. Overall, this project was an amazing idea, and I hope to do something like this again.
