Melissa Legro Izaguirre Assignment #1

Recently, I had the chance to present Chapter 10 from the book "Public Speaking: The Evolving Art" by Stephanie J. Coopman and James Lule. This experience made me feel thankful and happy. I got to work with a great group of peers who were very knowledgeable and dedicated. Together, we learned a lot and improved our important skills like teamwork, communication, and public speaking.

From when we first started, everyone in our group was excited about the material we were going to cover. Chapter 10 talks about how the way we deliver a speech affects the audience’s understanding and feelings. This is a key topic in public speaking. We all brought different thoughts and ideas to the table, which led to lively discussions. Sharing our views felt really good, and I felt encouraged to speak up. It was nice to know that my input mattered. This created a friendly and supportive environment that made working together enjoyable.

When we began researching the chapter, it was especially rewarding to do it as a group. We decided to break the chapter into smaller sections. This way, each person could focus on a specific part while still covering the whole chapter. Dividing the work like this helped us all a lot; we weren't overwhelmed and had a chance to dig deeper into specific topics. For example, we looked closely at important areas like tone, body language, and how different speaking styles can vary in effectiveness. This method was not only a smart way to work, but it also taught me more because I got to learn from what others discovered.

As we came together to share what we found, the teamwork spirit stayed strong. Each time we met, I felt we were making good progress in creating our presentation. We would take turns talking about our individual research, sharing what we learned. This back-and-forth sharing led us to give each other useful advice and suggestions. As we did this, we were able to refine our ideas and make them better. This made us feel like we were all in it together, which was a nice feeling. We all truly cared about the success of our presentation.

One of the key things we learned from Chapter 10 is how important delivery is when speaking. How we say things can change how people feel and respond. For example, using the right tone of voice can make a big difference in how your message is received. If we speak too softly, people might not hear us, or if we sound too harsh, they might feel uncomfortable. Practicing our delivery helped us understand this better. We all took turns practicing our parts, focusing on how our voice, pace, and gestures would affect the audience.

Another important lesson was about body language. How we present ourselves physically matters a lot. If we stand straight and make eye contact, it shows confidence. However, if we slouch or avoid looking at the audience, it might seem like we're not sure of ourselves. This part of the presentation preparation was eye-opening. It showed me how much our body can communicate even when we are not speaking. We all practiced our posture and gestures together, giving feedback to help each other improve.

The collaboration throughout this process created a sense of trust in our group. Everyone was open to sharing their ideas without fear of judgment. This was crucial because it allowed us to explore different perspectives. I saw how diverse thoughts can lead to better outcomes in projects. It reminded me that in a team, we can combine our strengths and learn from each other.

When it came time for the actual presentation, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. This is normal, and it shows that we care about what we are sharing. In our presentation, we used the skills we practiced together. We remembered to use good tone, clear body language, and effective pauses to keep our audience engaged. I also noticed how we supported each other during the presentation. When one of us spoke, the others smiled or nodded to show encouragement. This made the atmosphere friendly and inviting for the audience.

After the presentation, we all felt a sense of accomplishment. We had worked hard as a team, and it paid off. We learned a lot not only about the chapter but also about each other. It was great to see how our teamwork led to a successful presentation. Reflecting on this experience, I am even more aware of the value of cooperation and open communication.

In conclusion, presenting Chapter 10 was an enriching experience for me. I am grateful for the chance to work with such a wonderful group. This experience helped me grow in my public speaking skills and taught me others strengths can enhance a group's efforts. I am excited to carry these lessons forward in future projects and presentations.
