Josvell Cuervo - Assignment 1
properly
deliver the speaker's ability to connect with and impact their listeners. One
of the most important factors that must be considered during public speaking is
the structure of the speech. The structure of a speech is made up of many
aspects, specifically the primacy and recency effects. The primacy effect
states that most of the information learned during a speech is the information
that is shared at the beginning of the speech. The recency effect states that
the information that was told last is easiest to refresh in an individual's
mind. A big principle of a speech is to make sure that you grab the audience's
attention from the gate. The information told during a speech must be delivered
with the purpose as well as making sure that the information is reputable and
credible to ensure that you can properly deliver on the topic you're speaking
about.

When
participating in public speaking engagement is a central feature that must be
considered since if an audience isn’t engaged it will be extremely difficult
for any amount of information given out by the speaker to stick with the
audience. Therefore, to increase engagement I added a multitude of graphics
that helped paint a picture to the audience about public speaking. In doing so
I believe that graphics not only eliminate the amount of that amount of
information that must be present, but it helps demonstrate a point or idea much
faster and more effective.
Personalization
I believe that personalization in
public speaking gives the audience a feel of the speaker’s creativity and
personality. The reason why it’s important to give the audience a feel of the
speaker’s creativity and personality is because it can create a strong
connection or bond between the audience that will resonate with them.
I
chose a more serious theme to properly convey the educational message that I
was trying to deliver during my speech. By providing information and applying
the same knowledge that I gained from my research. Something extremely notable
was that the book it discuss forms of presentation media. These forms consisted
of
- Audio media
- Audio Media is the utilization of sounds to convey a message.
- Physical models
- The use of a physical example such as a globe to demonstrate a point or idea through a sense like touch, relative size, and smell.
- Visual media
- Visual media consists of videos, graphics, and real-time photos.
My
experience
During this speech, I used a lot of the basics that I researched to correctly
communicate with my peers whilst trying to give my take on public speaking and
its aspects. However, there were many trials and tribulations while conducting
research. One of the most difficult challenges faced was coming up with the
initial idea of a theme. In detail, this essential idea meant that all group
members would have to agree. Soon after it was decided that a theme that gave
off a determined emotion would be selected. Seeing my partner's perspectives
guided me in strengthening the structure and format of my public speech. This
took a lot of dedication from all team members to successfully strategize.
However, it was hard to communicate due to the difference in our schedules. Therefore,
appropriately establishing times to meet was a must. Despite all these complications
we still managed to persevere as a team. What I gained from this assignment were
newfound techniques and skills that I will be using in my career as a nurse. One
thing I had a tough time with was confidence during my speech because of social
anxiety. It felt very hard for me to express my knowledge of the topic without dilemma.

Delivery Techniques: Body Language and Voice Modulation
Engagement techniques I used during my presentation were speaking in a manner that the audience could be more captivated by. In further detail, this speaking technique was to sound more invested to set an enthusiastic tone.Although the presentation was set through Zoom, I still practiced an array of body language strategies. The array of body language that I practiced was proper posture, cheerful expressions, and overall confidence.
- Cheerful expressions
- Cheerful expressions can give the feeling of warmth and comfort.
- Proper posture
- Proper posture can make it seem like the speaker is knowledgeable and intrigued about the topic.
- Confidence
- There are many benefits to having Confidence during a public speech one of the most prominent ones is showing the audience that you have credibility and can be deemed as trustworthy with the information disbursed during the speech.

Overcoming
Nervousness and Connecting with the Audience
A
fundamental aspect of human interaction can be nervousness. It can be difficult
to avoid the surge of constant emotions when giving a public speech, especially
when taking into count the size of the audience. It’s important to keep calm
and maintain your confidence in order to create the best possible connection
with the crowd. As an effect, if a speaker can maintain their composure an
effective speech can be delivered with the proper information. If the speaker
fails to establish proper connection or correlation this can disrupt the
momentum of the speech. Consequently, this can decrease the engagement of the
audience. For example, in many cases, individuals who aren’t too knowledgeable
on a topic tend to have many gaps during their speeches. As a result, the
audience may leave misinformed, or the audience's perception of the speaker can
turn negative.
